GH : Emile is everything you need in a striker Yeah ur rite Boss????????????

Djibril Cisse may be the latest striker to be heavily linked with a move to Anfield but Gerard Houllier insists that Emile Heskey possesses everything you need in a striker.
The liverpool striker has come under fire from some critics at international level who believe his place in the England team should be handed to Everton's Wayne Rooney but Gerard Houllier insists that he always knew Heskey would come good for the Reds.
"I never had any doubts that Emile would come good," insists Houllier. "He said a while ago that he saw himself as an out-and-out striker rather than a left-sided midfielder. I signed Emile as a centre forward and knew he would make his mark there. Often it's been a question of self-belief with him, but we've worked on that and are seeing the benefits.
"He is everything you need in a striker and he's young. He scored a lot of good goals last season and the partnership with Michael Owen worked well."

Gua Risau "Bruno" di jual ...kerana dia masih boleh bergandingan mantap ngan Owen... Cisse ishh...susah nak kata lahh....takut dia jadi cam Diouf jer...
Flanker Kiri masih dlm pencarian... Duff ?? Kewell ?? Malbranque..??

Pegguy Arphexad and Bernard Diomede will be free agents once their contracts with the club expire on June 30.
Gerard Houllier has decided that the French pair are surplus to requirements at Anfield and both will be released.
They are two of six professional players the club are letting go - Patrik Berger, Vegard Heggem, Stephen McNulty and Mark Peers being the others.
Arphexad joined Liverpool from Leicester during the summer 2000 but found his first team opportunities severely restricted by the presence of Sander Westerveld, then Jerzy Dudek and Chris Kirkland. In total he made just six senior appearances.
Diomede, a member of France's 1998 World Cup winning squad, appeared only five times in the first team after being signed from Auxerre in June 2000 and spent the second half of last season on loan at French First Division club Ajaccio

Massive Government boost for LFC
Liverpool Football Club was given a massive boost by the Government this morning when the city beat off strong competition to be named European Capital of Culture for 2008. The city of Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture 2008 by Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell just after 8am this morning after beating five other hopefuls - Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Newcastle-Gateshead and Oxford - to win the coveted prize.
The title is expected to attract more tourists, increase investment and create jobs as well as boost the profile of the winning city. With an estimated 1.6 million new visitors expected to flood into the city, Liverpool Football Club will reap the benefits as more and more people visit the new stadium, enjoy the museum and spend money in the club stores.
The UK's last City of Culture - Glasgow in 1990 - saw a massive increase in tourism as a result of winning the title. The BBC reported that the team promoting Liverpool's bid said it has prepared a detailed plan to deliver "the most spectacular celebration of culture" in the history of Europe.
It promises a year-long festival featuring art, architecture, ballet, comedy, cinema, food, fashion, literature, music, opera, science and theatre. Sir Bob Scott, chief executive of the Liverpool Culture Company spearheading the bid, insisted: "This is an exceptional and stimulating city. It can be charming, humorous and witty, as well as irreverent, opinionated and challenging."
Newcastle were widely tipped to win the title but Liverpool, home of the most successful English club in Europe, ran out winners. Let's hope that the team is also kings of Europe well before 2008.

Berita-berita mengenai Christian Damiano yang dikatakan akan di ambil bagi menggantikan Jacques Crevoisier sebagai salah seorang jurulatih di Liverpool FC.
Houllier hopeful of Damiano signing
Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is hopeful French coach and former Fulham assistant manager Christian Damiano will be joining the Anfield club soon. Damiano is likely to replace Jacques Crevoisier at Melwood. Houllier said: "All things being well, Christian will join us for next season. He's an excellent coach who is responsible for helping nurture some of the biggest talents in France, such as Henry and Gallas."
There can be no doubting the coaching credentials of Christian Damiano, as he is one of the most respected trainers in European football. Sacked by Fulham at the end of last season the former assistant manager to Jean Tigana was the man behind the success of the French national team's that won the World Cup in 1998 and European Championships in 2000.
Damiano was the main coach along with Gerard Houllier at the ground-breaking French National Academy in Clairfontaine, where the pair played a major part in establishing the French national side as the considerable force they are in world football today. Household names like Zidane, Henry, Trezeguet and Anelka all owe the man a substantial debt for his contribution to their development. He arrived in England as assistant manager to Jean Tigana in 2000 and stayed with Fulham until the end of season 2002-2003.
Damiano on Houllier and Liverpool
As published in the official Liverpool Matchday magazine from 12th December 2001, French coach Christian Damiano gives a fascinating interview and talks about his respect for Gerard Houllier and the credentials of Reds young stars Florent Sinama Pongolle and Anthony Le Tallec. Houllier is hopeful he can add his good friend Damiano to the Liverpool coaching staff shortly to replace outgoing Frenchman Jacques Crevoisier at Melwood.
This interview was published before Liverpool played Fulham in a Premiership match at Anfield, when Damiano was assistant manager to Jean Tigana.
You worked with Gerard Houllier at the French FA for 10 years, what do you remember about those days?
Chrstian Damiano: It was a privilege and a pleasure to work with Gerard and he made a massive contribution to French football at all levels. He was always very hard working and we had an excellent professional relationship. Of course, when you work so closely with someone like that you become good friends and Gerard was a fantastic example for me. I learnt a lot from him and he's a brilliant and very honest man.
Do you keep in touch with Gerard?
Christian Damiano: He helped me when I first arrived in England and we still speak often. I was one of the first people he called when he had recovered sufficiently in hospital and I'm delighted he has recovered so well.
Did his success at Liverpool surprise you?
Christian Damiano: Not at all. He has an amazing capacity to make the right choices and put the right measures in place to build for the future. Five trophies is amazing, but it's just part of a longer process. You can see that in how well Liverpool are doing in the Premiership and the Champions League. It's all about the long term with Gerard.
How instrumental was he in the French national side's success?
Christian Damiano: He was behind a lot of significant changes early on, which of course helped lead to World Cup and European Championship success. Those changes took place gradually at each level, and it was a question of going back to basics and looking at everything.
He made significant changes to coaching ideology...
Christian Damiano: Exactly. Gerard was anxious we start working with kids of 11, previously it had been 16. He also looks at what's going on around the world, and he used to send me all over the place. I went to Italy many times to learn about different attitudes to coaching and I became friends with people like Marcello Lippi as a result. We'd bring ideas back and adapt them to suit our environment.
So how do you coach such young kids?
Christian Damiano: Football is like school. There you have to learn the alphabet, then how to arrange the letters to form words, then words to sentences, etc. We work on skills to give a player technique - and everything else comes from that. For a young player, technique is more important than speed, strength or physique, and as a player gets older, the other things need to be worked at. Nicolas Anelka and Theirry Henry were at Clairefontaine when they were 13. They already had great balance and co-ordination but some bad footballing habits, so for three years we worked hard on their technical ability. A player needs complete control over the ball before moving on to tactics.
How much of an impact has this had on the English game?:
Christian Damiano: Although certain ideas have been imported successfully, there's a different mentality in England, but it's a positive one. With British players, the passion is always there with the spirit and attitude is brilliant. You don't get that everywhere. I love the passion for the game that exists over here and the supporters are incredible.
What do you know of Liverpool's signings, Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongolle?
Christian Damiano: Another fantastic move by Gerard. About a year ago Fulham were in Le Havre hoping to sort out a working relationship with them and we unfortunately missed out. Gerard stepped in and Liverpool supporters should be very happy. They're two very talented lads.

3 pemain Liverpool jadi kapten England buat semalam.
Three LFC captains for England
Three Liverpool players captained England on Tuesday night as the national team ran out 2-1 winners against Serbia and Montenegro in Leicester. Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and Emile Heskey started the match for England with Owen captain for the night. Team-mate Gerrard got England off to a great start after 35 minutes with a driving run from midfield, a neat one-two with Owen before sliding the ball home from ten yards.
Serbia levelled the match with a shock goal after 45 minutes and then it was all change for England. Owen and Gerrard were both substituted at half-time and Heskey took over the role of captain in his home city. Heskey's captain's role only lasted 16 minutes before he was withdrawn from the game and the armband went to Phil Neville. With just four minutes remaining, the Manchester United player handed the captain's armband to substitute Jamie Carragher - the third LFC captain of the night.
England won the game after Joe Cole scored a free-kick winner after 76 minutes.

Harry Kewell tak jadi pindah?
Kewell may re-sign with Leeds
Reported Liverpool target Harry Kewell has admitted he may sign a new contract with Leeds United despite seeming unwilling to commit his future to the Yorkshire club. The Australian forward has just one year remaining on his Elland Road contract as speculation persists that he is at the centre of a bidding war between Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.
However Kewell's soap-star wife is expecting a baby and the 24-year-old insists that he will put his family first and that reports of asking for £70,000 a week from perspective bidders are wide of the mark. "I'm still contracted to Leeds for one more season and I might sign another contract with them, I don't know yet," said Kewell. Money is not everything and my family comes first. I've got on well with Peter Reid at Leeds since he arrived - there's a lot to take into account."

Rushie: Owen is the number one
Michael Owen
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images3/210103-owen_90x60_41.jpg
Michael Owen would definitely be number one. I don't think you can compare him to any other strikers, past or present. If he manages to stay free from injury then there's no reason why he couldn't surpass every goalscoring record at this club. I'm proud of the records I hold but I'd be more than pleased to see Michael Owen go and break them. He's already equalled my European one so no doubt that's going to be broken, he's recently surpassed the 100 league goal mark and long-term there's more waiting to be smashed. The good thing about it, is that he'll have these in his sights and will want to beat them. That's because he's a winner.
Raul
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images/raul.jpg
He's been a prolific scorer in the Champions League for a number of season's now with Real Madrid and has more than proved himself at the highest level. He's surrounded by star players at the Bernabeu but he remains one of the biggest stars in the Real team.
Van Nistelrooy
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images3/070403-nistelrooy_90x60_03.jpg
For his work-rate and the amount of goals he scores he has to be up there with the best. He may not be the complete player but a lot of the time he has to play up front by himself and his prolific strike rate proves just what a natural goalscorer he is.
Thierry Henry
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images3/301202-henry_90x60_02.jpg
His turn of pace and skill is incredible and he's another player who I'm sure is going to get better. He was phenomenal for Arsenal at times this season and a joy to watch.
Filippo Inzaghi
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images3/020603-Filippo_Inzaghi_90x60_01.jpg
Inzaghi has caught my eye a lot this season during AC Milan's march through the Champions League. He's not afraid to miss and that's typical of a good striker. I like strikers like this, although he probably should score more than he does.

What European Capital of Culture status means for LFC
On the day that Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture for 2008, Liverpoolfc.tv spoke exclusively to the Reds' Chief Executive Rick Parry about how the triumph will see huge rewards for both the city and Liverpool Football Club.
Were you surprised that Liverpool won the European Capital of Culture for 2008?
"No, delighted. I think it's great news. I think I always felt Liverpool had a very good chance and had a very good case but equally, so did the other cities. So it's one of those where it's not a surprise, but equally it wouldn't have been a surprise had we not got it."
The campaign that the team launched has been running for about two-and-a-half years, have you had any involvement?
"We've had some involvement in it. It would have been highly inappropriate to claim that we played a major part. Bob Scott and I go back a long way as we worked together on the Manchester Olympic bid and as a leader of initiative, there is nobody better than Bob. I've got the greatest respect for him and I'm absolutely delighted for him and for everybody else who is involved.
"We tried to do our bit in supporting the bid, but it's been very much a lesser role and it's not for us to be claiming any of the credit. We've tried to respond whenever we've been asked and we've always been right behind it."
What are the positives that Liverpool Football club can expect to see from this? There should be a lot more investment and business in the city and one would assume LFC would reap the benefits of those.
"You're absolutely right. I think that we obviously draw business to the city in our own right anyway, and that will be further enhanced now. I think successful cities and successful teams can go together. If you look at the success of Manchester United in the 90s - that certainly went hand in hand with the resurgence and the regeneration of Manchester as a city.
"I think that in the regeneration of cities and the success of football clubs, there is one common theme - confidence and self-belief. This will do a huge amount for the self-belief of Liverpool, which is terrific news.
"Again, if you look back to Liverpool's resurgence under Shankly in the 60s, it coincided with a phase when the city was buzzing anyway. The fact that the city is now on the up is something that we can not only benefit from but be a part of because sport has obviously been recognised as an integral past of the culture of Liverpool.
"Liverpool's sporting heritage clearly fitted within the framework of the bid and featured prominently. The obvious and direct benefit and contribution we can make building up to 2008 is the landmark of a new world-class stadium. The discussion on the stadium and the regeneration of north Liverpool is bound to be given a lift as well."
There will be a few extra people that would like to fit into that stadium as well now?
"Hopefully. In terms of giving confidence and further reassurance that it's right to be expanding capacity and planning for success, then yes, that has got to be good news too."
It's got to be a plus point when people go away from the city thinking great things about not only the city but also the football club. This could give birth to a new generation of supporters around the world.
"I think that's right. One of the cities which always excites me is Barcelona. I love it as a city. I admire the club. In term of the contribution that a new stadium can make for Liverpool, one of the points we've been making to the city for a while is that the Nou Camp alone attracts around one-and-a-quarter million visitors a year. That is an overwhelming statistic.
"If more visitors are coming to the city, as they inevitably will, then in terms of Anfield being a destination from a tourist point of view let alone being a destination for the matches, there's bound to be an upside to that. The hotel industry will get a lift and the whole city will get a lift. Providing we continue to be successful, we'll be right up there - hopefully contributing to the Capital of Culture and befitting from it.

Houllier: New stadium will help us compete at the top level
Gerard Houllier has spoken for the first time about Liverpool's proposed stadium move and insists a new larger stadium is essential if we want to compete with the best in Europe.
At present Manchester United are believed to make at least £1 million more than Liverpool every time they play at Old Trafford due to the sheer capacity of the ground and Houllier believes Liverpool must move to a bigger stadium if they want to stay realise their lofty ambitions.
"I think we have to do it at some stage if we want to compete with the others," Houllier told liverpoolfc.tv in an exclusive interview where he faced questions from supporters. "Newcastle have got a stadium which holds nearly 60,000 and Manchester United's ground holds nearly 70,000. In terms of revenue for the club it means if we want to stay at the top and compete at the top in the league and in Europe then we need to change the stadium. There will be other advantages as well like better facilities, better parking, all sorts of things."

Sonny day for Reds?
Gerard Houllier is said to be ready to move for Lyon striker Sonny Anderson if he is unable to secure the services of Djibril Cisse this summer. The 32-year-old Brazilian striker, who has also played for club's of the stature of Monaco and Barcelona, is seen as a useful stop-gap signing as the Reds know only too well that may have to wait yet another year before they can bring 22-year-old Cisse to Anfield.

Pongolle linked with Lens
Florent Sinama-Pongolle could be loaned out to Lens for a season after the relegation of Le Havre from the French first division. With no immediate need to bring Pongolle to Anfield, Lens have expressed an interest in taking the youngster on loan from the start of next season. It is not yet known whether Anthony Le Tallec would remain at Le Havre or be brought to Anfield.

Eriksson hails Gerrard
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson believes that Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is capable of playing for any team in the world. The Swede made the observation after watching the 23-year-old dominate procedings in Tuesday's international victory over Serbia & Montenegro at the Walkers Stadium. Eriksson said: "Since I came to this country Steven Gerrard has always been a great player. He could play for sure in any team in the world. He's a complete player. "The difference between when I came and now is that he seems to be a very happy young man. He smiles and talks much more than he did two years ago. That's merit to him and the club he plays for."

Le Tallec pleads for Anfield switch
Le Havre starlet Anthony Le Tallec has pleaded with Gerard Houllier to bring him to Liverpool ahead of next season. "I want to tie my name with Liverpool's for next season," he said. "I now want to play at the highest level. I have learnt a lot and I know what I want".
Reds back in for Yakin?
Local newspaper speculation is claiming that Gerard Houllier is set to sign Basle play-maker Hakin Yakin. The 26-year-old Swiss international impressed the Reds boss when he orchestrated Liverpool's Champions League exit in November. With Yakin available for just £750,000, Houllier is expected to make a move in the near future.

That was the week then was it?
Will the defence change at all this summer? Hyypia, Henchoz and Riise hardly need anything said about them. Over the past two seasons they have been three of our best players and it would cost around £40M to replace them. Who can honestly say they would prefer anyone form Arsenal, Man Utd or Newcastle’s defence?
Babbel would appear to have played his last game for the club and disregarding all we hear about his attitude; Jamie Redknapp will tell him that it’s near on impossible to get your career going again at a big club after a long lay off. At times this season, Traore reminded me of the Babb/McAteer days when you expected the opposition to score every time they had the ball. I’m not convinced he is even a decent player to have in reserve. If Houllier does bring Finnan or another centre back to the club, surely his days are numbered. Biscan has trained as defensive cover this season but I doubt he is a long term solution and I’m sure any decent offer for him would be accepted.
Carragher may think he has to worry if Finnan is bought (which was supposedly a done deal) but I don’t believe the Irishman will walk straight into the side at Carra’s expense. Riise may move to left midfield if on-one is brought in to play there and Carra may resume the left back role he successfully occupied during the cup winning year. In conclusion, we pretty much have the best defence in the league but it requires some back up having suffered long term injures to Babbel and Henchoz.

LOL ... what good luck :D
Reds to make eight-year-old's day!
Liverpool FC confirmed today that they would play a pre-season friendly against non-league club Fleetwood Town. Due to Liverpool Football Club's intensive pre-season schedule a date for the game has yet to be confirmed, however, it is hoped the match will take place in late July or early August and is dependent upon other pre-season fixtures.
The game will involve first team squad members in need of match practice and young professionals on the fringe of the first team. The squad will be announced in advance to give supporters wishing to attend the match an idea of the team.
Liverpool Football Club's Assistant Manager Phil Thompson said: "This is a game that we hope to fit into our pre-season schedule and an unusual one in that it was organised by the owner of Fleetwood Town's eight year old son!
"Dominic met Gerard Houllier on a flight back to the UK a number of months ago and the manager said he would do his best to fit in a game against them before the season began." The game is likely to be confirmed at short notice and information about this match and other pre-season fixtures will be posted on the this website as and when they are confirmed.

Reid admits interest in Berger
Leeds United manager Peter Reid has admitted he is interested in bringing free agent Patrik Berger to Elland Road. Berger's contract expires at Anfield on June 30 and he is free to talk and sign for an other club. Reid said: "I'm looking at players at the moment and Berger is one of those players. I think he's a good footballer who was obviously injured and didn't play in many games for Liverpool towards the end, but he's certainly one I'm looking at."

Just what sort of fan are you?
FORGET your polls, stop your phone calls, don't waste your time writing letters calling for a change at the top and pack in the cheap shots. Gerard Houllier remains the right man to lead Liverpool. If he left the club now it would be the worst thing to happen at Anfield since Kenny Dalglish quit. Anyone calling for his removal is wasting their breath, our time and their mummy and daddy's money on internet bills. Liverpool's followers can be divided into different categories when it comes to their reaction to their slump. Indeed, there's nothing like a dodgy spell to unmask our true identities. With a touch of amateur psycho-analysis, a profile of individuals can be provided and perhaps liverpoolfc.tv readers will have a bit of fun (or not) recognising themselves in the following.
The most vocal, amusing and sadly deluded group nailing their colours to the mast are the 606 army. These people spend weekend afternoons in their bedroom watching Soccer Saturday but still have the capacity to speak with absolute clarity about how well, or should that be how poorly, Liverpool are playing. They believe Rodney Marsh when he moves his mouth. They think Frank McLintock's view of Liverpool's performance is unbiased. They look at the result and nothing else. And then they pick up the phone and call national radio stations to tell the world Houllier must go and Martin O'Neill is the only replacement.
Those whose mental problems haven't yet been diagnosed or are simply avoiding their medication are even heard uttering those words which send our spines into a cold shudder... "David O'Leary is taking over and Houllier's moving upstairs" Without a hint of irony, they even believe this is true. It's tragic. Last season, these people thought Terry Venables was the right man for Liverpool. They don't admit it now, but they did. But the worst, most horrid thing about this sad collection is just two years ago they loved their manager and defended him with a fervour which bordered on the religious. Now he's in need of support they've retreated from their duty quicker than Liverpool's defence at Charlton last weekend.
Related to these clones of the Fever Pitch generation are an equally boisterous anti-not-winning-every-single-game-by-at-least-five-goals brigade who actually attend the matches, spend dosh on the club and base their views on what they see rather than what they hear or read. They think this makes them more credible, but it doesn't. Quite a few of this lot have hated Gerard Houllier since he arrived because he's foreign and bought Vladimir Smicer. With every misplaced pass from Vlad they foam at the mouth in a way which would make an epileptic shudder in fear. They knew Houllier was the wrong man for the job in 1998 and have been telling everyone within spitting distance as much since he signed Emile Heskey. Now they believe they've been proved right and their recruitment campaign is gaining momentum because Liverpool have lost their last three league games.
Not that all the characters in this drama are against the club. Perish the thought. Arguably the most irritating of the lot are the everything-is-rosy gardeners. They're oh so 'loyal' it makes you vomit. Liverpool can get knocked out of the Champions League, lose to poor sides such as Fulham, Charlton and Middlesbrough, and if anyone so much as suggests things are going, maybe, just a little bit 'wrong', they'll look at you like you've just broken wind in a lift. Anyone daring to ask if Heskey should be a striker rather than a left midfielder is accused of high treason. Pose the question 'Do you think Nicolas Anelka would have been a better buy than El-Hadji Diouf?' and you'll be tainted as anti-Gerard Houllier for life. A black mark will be engraved on your forehead. These people have all the debating skills of an SS officer and their favourite play is obviously 'The Crucible' (watch the film, it's quicker).
Anyone out therefit into these categories? Possibly not. No doubt those that do stopped reading after the first paragraph to register their disgust on the notice board in a craving for agreement to their pro/anti stance. The rest of you still reading? Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd define you as the following. Very frustrated, cynical, quizzical, optimistic one week and the opposite the next. Prone to knee jerk reactions, but wise enough to know that how you may feel an hour after a defeat is usually cloudier than how you feel 24 hours later. You'll reserve the right to question decisions without fear of being misinterpreted as someone calling for the manager to be sacked. In fact, you'll never call for a Liverpool boss to go. You hate to admit it publicly because it's not politically correct, but you still feel a bit sorry for Souness, don't you?
You're realistic enough to know Liverpool aren't as good as you hoped and wanted them to be, but never, never, at any stage, will you be prepared to call for the replacement of a boss who put his life on the line, has achieved so much in four good years and is currently suffering four bad weeks. It's not your way. You don't require shameful polls or phone-ins to register how you think. And what witty label do I have to differentiate you from those mentioned elsewhere in this article? Quite simple. You're Liverpool supporters.

Houllier wins honorary OBE
http://www.teamtalk.com/Images/11302.jpg
Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger have been awarded honorary OBEs in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
The two Frenchmen have been recognised for their contributions to football, especially the influence they have had in the Premier League.
Wenger has won two Premiership titles with the Gunners, plus two FA Cups - which included the Double in 2001.
Houllier guided Liverpool to a treble of the Uefa Cup, FA Cup and Worthington Cup in 2001, with further success in the European Super Cup and Charity Shield as the Reds claimed five trophies within a seven-month spell.
Houllier will be presented with the award by the Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, at a ceremony in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 9 July.
Houllier told the club's official website: "To be given such an award is a great, great honour and to be recognised in this way at the same time as my good friend Arsene Wenger makes it even more special.
"I am very proud to be considered worthy of such a prestigious award. This award is for Liverpool Football Club, the city of Liverpool and the fans who have always served as an inspiration to me.
"This honour must be shared with everyone associated with Liverpool Football Club, everyone who has Liverpool in their heart.
"This accolade is an opportunity for Arsene and I to stress how lucky and grateful we are to work in this country in jobs that we love, with people we like very much and respect.
"To be recognised for my services to football is an immense honour, and I want to continue to contribute to the game.''
Straw added: "With skill and passion, Messieurs Houllier and Wenger have led two of the country's greatest clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal, to glory at home and in Europe.
"And they have become inspirational figures for many in the English and French game, acting as true Ambassadors for Franco-British relations.
"While each of us has our own club allegiance, we are all fans of these two Frenchmen who have become such an integral part of British sporting life."

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is on the verge of signing a new contract. The 23-year-old has two years left on his current deal, but is happy to extend his stay at the Anfield club.
"I have got two years left on my contract and I am sure I will sign a new contract very soon and stay at Liverpool," said Gerrard.
He added: "You can never say never about playing abroad, but I am well happy at Liverpool. I am enjoying my football at Anfield.
"Everyone knows that when you have got two years left it's make or break about whether you stay."I know that the club want me and I want them. I am sure it will get sorted out."
Boumsong - Contact Has Been Made
http://www.soccer365.com/mediastore/frontpage_images/Boumsong_Jean_Alain_AUXERRE.jpg
Auxerre's highly-rated defender Jean-Alain Boumsong claims he has been contacted by both Liverpool and Marseille.
Boumsong, who is with the French national team preparing for the Confederations Cup, told L'Equipe: "I would be lying if I said I had not [had contact], notably with Marseille and Liverpool.
"But perhaps I won't be going there. You can have hundreds of contacts but with no transfer at the end."
Asked if he felt he would still be with the Coupe de France winners next year, the 23-year-old added: "I will start pre-season training with Auxerre if necessary. I am not staying by my phone. But things can still change."

Carragher could move into centre
http://www.soccernet.com/images/england/lfc/Carragher_PC.jpg
Liverpool legend Ian Rush claims Jamie Carragher's future could now be in the heart of defence with the imminent £3.5million arrival of Steve Finnan.
Defender Carragher looks likely to lose his right-back spot to the Irish international - who will formally complete his move from Fulham at the end of the month.
But Rush, speaking on the club's website, believes Finnan is a shrewd buy and that the England captain's versatility will ensure he has a big future still at Anfield.
Welshman Rush, now Liverpool's striking coach, said: 'People will wonder what his arrival means for Jamie Carragher. 'For me, Jamie has been one of Liverpool's most consistent players for the last couple of seasons.
'It should not be forgotten, however, that he can also play very well at centre-back and will give Gerard Houllier another option there.'
And on Finnan's arrival, Rush added: 'Finnan is an international and has Premiership experience with Fulham. Coming to Liverpool is a big move for him and a lot is to be expected from him.
'He is one of those full-backs that likes to get forward and that will give the Liverpool's attack another option. 'With Finnan and John Arne Riise getting down the flanks, it will give opposing teams a lot to worry about.'

Aku pun rasa Carragher akan hilang tempat dia di sebelah pertahanan kanan. Finnan ni lebih pintar membantu serangan. Letak Carra kiri atau tengah pun bagus.
Diouf on target in Senegal triumph
El Hadji Diouf was on target from the penalty spot as Senegal qualified for ther 2004 African Nations Cup with a 3-0 victory over Lesotho.

Rumour Mill: Owen linked with Barca
The Spanish media are linking Michael Owen with a move to Barcelona. After Juan Laporta's failed bid to take David Beckham to the Nou Camp he has announced that another big name will be joining the Catalan club in the very near future.
"We couldn't reach agreement with Beckham's representatives but our supporters shouldn't be too worried," said Laporta. "We have other options." Michael Owen, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Ronaldinho have all been suggested as possible additions by the Spanish press.

Rush not surprised transfer scene is quiet
Ian Rush has told Liverpool fans not to be too concerned that the transfer scene appears to be relatively quiet at the moment. The Reds have so far only added Steve Finnan to the squad which finished last season - with the Irish star set to complete his transfer from Fulham at the end of the month - but Rush says there's no reason for the supporters to start getting impatient.
He says: "Liverpool fans should not be too concerned that there are not a lot of transfer dealings at the moment. Very little goes on at this time of the year, especially given the financial situation football is now in. Clubs don't want to be paying the wages of a new signing when the player is still on holiday.
"It is likely that negotiations are going on behind the scenes, without players actually putting pen to paper. When the clubs return for pre-season, that is when we will see things start to happen."

Assalamualaikum ..
Liverpool have denied they want to sign Udinese midfielder David Pizarro.
The Serie A side had claimed that Gerard Houllier wanted the Chilean international as part of his summer rebuilding at Anfield.
Juventus, Lazio and Parma are also reportedly interested in the 23-year-old, who scored seven goals in Serie A this year.
But Liverpool have ruled themselves out of the running to sign him.
'We have had no contact with Udinese,' a Liverpool spokesman told the club's official website.

Murphy hoping to extend contract
Danny Murphy says he would love to spend the rest of his playing days with Liverpool and wants to sign an extension to his contract. Murphy has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal but wants to extend that even further with his boyhood favourites Liverpool.
The Reds midfielder says he has worked so hard to become a regular member of Gerard Houllier's first team and wants to keep working hard to keep it that way. Murphy said: "After what I went through to get to where I am, playing for Liverpool means a lot to me. I'd be happy to play out the rest of my career at Anfield but we will have to wait and see what happens now.
"My people spoke to the club earlier in the season about extending my deal but there did not seem to be a solid answer. There is still a bit of time to sort things out properly but I have to size up all the options available to me. I would not want to leave Liverpool but you can never say never."
Murphy believes the 2003-2004 season will be a big one for Liverpool but says the players are keen to make up for missing out on a place in the Champions League. Murphy said: "Missing out on the Champions League was disappointing. But now we have to regroup and make sure we get back into the right frame of mind to put things right."

Murphy dismisses 'inaccurate' press reports
Danny Murphy has dismissed reports claiming there are doubts over his Liverpool future as pure fabrication. Stories in yesterday's press indicated that the midfield star would consider a move away from Anfield if he was not offered a new contract by the club.
But Liverpool's player of last season has moved quickly to distance himself from these rumours and is keen to put the record straight. He says: "I returned from holiday yesterday and was extremely surprised to see a story claiming to be an exclusive suggesting a contractual dispute and doubts over my future at Liverpool.
"This story is not only inaccurate, it is complete fabrication. I signed a four year contract this time last summer and I have never been happier. I enjoyed the most consistent season of my career last year and after recharging the batteries with a holiday and resting the neck injury that kept me out of the England programme this summer I have nothing on my mind other than making sure next season is a successful one for Liverpool Football Club.
"I would love to stay at Liverpool for the rest of my career but as it stands I have three years left on my current contract and I'm sure that if at any point the club wants to extend beyond that they will let my advisors know but at his stage we are not in talks and that doesn't concern me in the slightest."

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Yildiray Basturk will make a decision on his future in the next two weeks and is considering a move to Liverpool.
The Turkey international, who has also been linked with Arsenal, admits a move to England is his preferred option and will decide on his future within the next fortnight.
The 24-year-old said: "I still don't know what is happening yet but my manager at Bayer Leverkusen will speak to me and I think we will know more within two weeks.
"I have said that I like the game in England and, yes, Liverpool is still a possibility."They are a good club with good players. We will have to see what happens," he told the Daily Star.
Gerrard: My future's at Anfield
http://www.teamtalk.com/Images/12638.jpg
Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard says he would be happy to stay at Anfield for the rest of his career.
The England international has two years of his current deal remaining but the Reds look likely to offer him a new contract in the near future.
Gerrard was a product of the academy system at Anfield and has made over 100 appearances for the Premiership club, and he told Liverpool's official website: "I've enjoyed every day I've been here and I'm going to keep enjoying it here.
"It's a fantastic club, the people here are fantastic and the fans are fantastic. I've got no reasons to move to another club and as long as Liverpool want me, I'm prepared to stay."

Owen - Reds must strengthen to mount title tilt
http://www.teamtalk.com/Images/7353.jpg
Michael Owen has targeted an 80-point haul which he believes could land the title - but he admits Liverpool's squad needs strengthening first.
England striker Owen is now enjoying his first extended summer break for many a year after his wonderful exploits for club and country this season.
But he already has an eye on next term and says 80 points in the Premiership has to be the very least they should manage to offer a decent challenge to Arsenal and Manchester United.
And the player is looking forward to seeing the results of Gerard Houllier's thinking on squad strengthening.
He said: "We know the targets we have got to hit to become champions. We know that we can get 80 or so points, we got that many a few years ago.
"Obviously it's a big season for us coming up. It was a big step backwards last time, so we need to get back on the improvement ladder. We know the players are capable of achieving the ultimate because we've hardly changed the squad over the years."
Nonetheless, Owen is looking for changes to take place this summer and hinted he would like help up front to relive the goalscoring burden.
Owen was once again Liverpool's top scorer last term with 28 goals and he added: "Obviously the manager will add one or two players to the squad and let's hope they give us a major lift as well.
"It's not for me to pick the team but certainly he will be looking to strengthen in certain areas."We have always had a good defence so maybe we could do with a bit of reinforcement going forward."

Warnock tipped as the next rising star
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images3/300503-35-Stephen_Warnock_02.jpg
Liverpool fans are backing 21-year old reserve Stephen Warnock to become the next Reds youngster to break into the first team.
In a poll we have been running here on Liverpoolfc.tv we asked you the supporters to vote for the young player you think will be our next rising star.
Competition was fierce but Ormskirk-born Warnock came out on top with an overwhelming majority of votes.
A left sided player who can operate in midfield or at the back, he is a graduate of the Academy who has been training with the first team at Melwood since 2001.
Anyone who witnessed his man-of-the-match performance - as a centre half - in the friendly defeat at Chester last August will be aware of his undoubted ability and his growing reputation was further enhanced following a successful loan spell at Bradford last season.
With his contract due to expire in June 2004 there is no doubt that this is a big season for Warnock but from the results of our poll, Liverpudlians have every faith in him emulating the likes of Carragher, Gerrard and Mellor over the coming months.
Michael Foley-Sheridan, Robbie Foy and Steven Gillespie came second, third and fourth respectively.

Steven Gerrard - Why I love Liverpool
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images3/040203-gerrard_90x60_17.gif
Liverpool are hoping to tie up Steven Gerrard to a longer term contract this summer, and in a recent exclusive interview with Liverpoolfc.tv Steven Gerrard talked about his love of Liverpool FC and why he has no reason to move elsewhere.
Liverpoolfc.tv's Mark Platt caught up with Steven Gerrard.
Liverpoolfc.tv: You are a rare exception in the current Liverpool squad in that you are from the area and are a Liverpool fan...
Steven Gerrard: Yeah I am a Liverpudlian and always have been. When I was coming through the Centre of Excellence I used to get tickets off Steve Heighway so my dad used to take me to the games.
Liverpoolfc.tv: Can you remember the first Liverpool match you went to?
Steven Gerrard: It was against Coventry at Anfield in 1986 and Jan Molby scored three penalties. Steve Heighway got me a couple of tickets and we went along and I enjoyed it.
Liverpoolfc.tv: What players did you look up to as a kid?
Steven Gerrard: John Barnes and Peter Beardsley. They were the players who made things happen for Liverpool then I watched Ronnie Whelan and Michael Thomas and tried to learn off them.
Liverpoolfc.tv: You joined the Academy at the age of nine - how big a thrill was it for you to join Liverpool?
Steven Gerrard: At the age of 14 I was offered a big contract which was like a YTS schoolboy forms and a couple of years professional. I just wanted to commit myself to the club for a very long time.
Liverpoolfc.tv: Was you always confident in your own ability to make the step-up from the Academy to Melwood?
Steven Gerrard: To be honest with you the first few months' I wasn't because training was difficult. It is a big step-up to go from training with players your own age to training with the likes of Jamie Redknapp. The players are a little bit quicker and stronger, but I managed to adapt and am enjoying it now!
Liverpoolfc.tv: You are living the dream of almost every Liverpool fan. Could you explain just what it's like to run out at Anfield in front of the Kop, with You'll Never Walk Alone?
Steven Gerrard: It's amazing and you get shivers down your spine when the fans sing your name. It's what I've always wanted and everyone knows the dream of playing in the first team for your favourite club. It is amazing and I aim to make the most of it.
Liverpoolfc.tv: Would you like to stay at Liverpool for the rest of your career?
Steven Gerrard: Yes. I've enjoyed every day I've been here and I'm going to keep enjoying it here. It's a fantastic club, the people here are fantastic and the fans are fantastic. I've got no reasons to move to another club and as long as Liverpool want me I'm prepared to stay.

Aldo - Why Owen is so special
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/images/181002-Owen_03_90x60.jpg
Former Liverpool great John Aldridge has never hidden his admiration for Michael Owen and believes the Reds number 10 has the ability to become the best Anfield striker of all time.
The former Liverpool number eight has watched Owen at close hand from the days when Aldridge was still playing scored goals, and says he is so vital to the club.
Aldridge said: "I remember the first time I ever saw Michael play which was when I was at Tranmere, and our reserve team played Liverpool at Anfield. I played in the game for Tranmere and Michael came on as sub and scored an absolutely wonder goal from about 30-yards!
"I'd heard about him before and he lived up to the expectations that night, and he's certainly exceeded those expectations up to now. I think he is a marvellous player to watch. His pace is electrifying and for any defenders you can't defend against pace.
"There's no reason why he will leave Liverpool and there's no reason why he should. Money isn't the be all and end all nowadays and Michael loves the club. If Michael was to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career he would become the all-time best ever striker I think."

Houllier: Danny is very happy
Gerard Houllier has joined Danny Murphy in rubbishing reports that the midfielder wants to leave Liverpool. Murphy yesterday reacted angrily to weekend press speculation that he could be on the lookout for a new club if the club did not offer him a new contract and now his manager has also spoken out to quell these rumours. Houllier says: "Danny has three years on his contract at Liverpool and he is very happy. Danny does not want to leave."

Kata-kata benar dari legenda Liverpool, Ian Rush. Tapi dalam 5 tahun, who knows?
Rush: Real can't compete with Reds
Real Madrid may be able to boast the most glittering array of football talent in the world but when it comes to global support they remain in the shadow of Liverpool, according to Ian Rush. The club's part-time striker coach believes the Spanish giants must envy the Reds when it comes to worldwide popularity, especially in the Far East.
He says: "No matter how much money they splash out and how many world-class players they sign, Madrid will never be able to compete with Liverpool when it comes to global support. Buying David Beckham was a bid to tap into that fanbase. But while Beckham is a huge hero in the Far East where Madrid are keen to boost their profile, Liverpool are far bigger. Liverpool will be mobbed when they arrive in Hong Kong because they are superstars there. Madrid, even with Beckham, could not match that level of support."
