Ada dua cara untuk korang join Folding@Malaysia Team :

- For PS3 owners:

Whilst running the program press Triangle to bring up the options, then click on "Identity", click "Join an existing team" then type in "2999". In the Identity option you should also select "Change Donor Name" and change it to 'PSPFans.NET'.

- For PC users:

You can sign up your computer right now by downloading the application for your computer by clicking HERE (http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html) . When you first run the the program, it will ask you for your team number and your username. Use 'PSPFans.NET as your username, and then enter '2999' in the box where it asks for team number.

Folding@Home project ni boleh cure disease :

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

You can help by simply running a piece of software. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals.

Folding@Home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems thousands to millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

Anyway, team nie baru jer established tak sampai pun 3 minggu. Dah menaiki rank dengan cepat dari tangga 500 ke tangga 100 lebih dalam masa yang singkat, disebabkan keupayaan PS3 untuk folding 30 kali ganda lagi cepat dari normal PC.

Team ini adalah sub-team dibawah Folding@Malaysia. Team ini sekarang berada di tangga 38 dalam rank dunia.

totti, username ko letak PSPFans.NET, dan Team ID ko letak 2999.

Secara ringkasnya, protein dalam badan kita perlu melakukan proses folding apabila menjalankan sesuatu fungsi dalam badan (contohnya, antibodi dan lain-lain lagi).

Tapi, sekiranya proses folding berlaku secara tidak betul, protein yang misfold tu tadik, akan berkumpul, dan akan menyebabkan penyakit seperti Mad Cow ataupun Alzheimer.

Proses folding ni berlaku dalam masa millionth of a second. So, untuk saintis memahami proses folding dalam masa itu, mmg impossible'lah melainkan guna CPU komputer untuk buat simulation.

So, tu sebab lahirkan idea untuk guna distributed computing macam sekarang nie. Menggunakan keupayaan komputer di seluruh dunia untuk buat pengiraan data. Data untuk simulation ni akan diupload ke PC/PS3 kita dari Stanford University, so, selepas habis pengiraan/simulation, data akan dihantar semula ke Stanford. So, proses ini akan berulang-ulang, sebab protein kat badan kita bukan ada satu-dua jer. :p

Latest News:(for PS3 Folding@Home)

Today Sony has announced their continuing support with an update (VERSION 1.1) set to go live tomorrow that will:

- increase folding speeds
- increased visibility of user location on the globe (User location by IP address)
- the ability for users to create longer donor or team names

PS3 users can download the new update version 1.1 by restarting the Folding@home application.

The folks at Stanford are ecstatic:

"The PS3 turnout has been amazing, greatly exceeding our expectations and allowing us to push our work dramatically forward," said Vijay Pande, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and Folding@home program lead. "Thanks to PS3, we have performed simulations in the first few weeks that would normally take us more than a year to calculate. We are now gearing up for new simulations that will continue our current studies of Alzheimer's and other diseases."
Some of the key accomplishments made since the Folding@home program launched on PS3 include:

· More than 250,000 unique PS3 users have registered to the program in just one month.
· PS3 users are delivering nearly 400 teraflops, achieving a total computing power of over 700 teraflops at a single moment. This is more than double the computing capacity of the network before PS3 joined the program.
· The "halo-effect" of PS3 has been evident as the number of active PCs has increased by 20 percent in the last month.

Additional computation cores are now supported. This allows Folding@home™ for PS3™ to support a wider range of protein-folding simulations.

Improvement: Advanced Participation Mode

An advanced participation mode has been added to Folding@home™ for PS3™. This mode allows Stanford to send simulations of varying computational lengths to users of Folding@home™ for PS3™.

Because the simulations in this mode can take significantly longer, Advanced Mode is only recommended for contributors who run Folding@home™ for PS3™ for at least eight (8) hours per day.

Note: In Advanced Mode, an energy graph during the simulation will also be displayed. In this graph, the blue line represents the total energy level of the protein over time. The red line represents the average temperature level at which the current simulation is run.

Improvement: Screensaver Mode

A screensaver mode can now be activated via the Settings menu. After no controller input has been detected for three (3) minutes, the screen will go blank except for a logo that periodically moves to avoid screen burn-in. Any controller input will exit the screensaver mode.

This feature allows your PS3™ system to consume slightly less power and to increase performance of protein-folding simulations.

Improvement: Link to Project Description

A link has been added to the Information menu that allows you to quickly obtain additional information about the specific research project that you’re currently contributing to.

Improvement: Protein Visualization Enhancements

All visualization modes have been enhanced with improved shading, highlighting, and focus effects.

In addition, four new visualization modes have been added:

Tapioca – Displays the protein as a smooth surface with improved shading and depth. (Tapioca replaces the “ISO Surface” visualization that was available in earlier versions.)

Caviar – Displays the protein as a smooth surface with defined edges.

Licorice – Displays only the protein’s bonds.

Backbone – Emphasizes specific sections of the protein that are of the most scientific interest to researchers.

Note: The Backbone visualization is not available for all proteins.
